IEC and the CCAA Team Up
IEC has been providing support to various charitable and non profit groups involved in youth and adult recreation in Southern Anne Arundel/Northern Calvert counties since 1999 through its charitable arm, the CCAA.
The CCAA was granted its IRS 501 (c) status in 1999 and is looking to expand its reach. It has recently grown to support non-athletic causes including various food banks throughout the region.
Its mission is to provide support to organizations that are unable to fill resource or facilities requests. The cornerstone of the program is its private facility located in Tracys Landing Md. It includes athletic fields and a working farm. It is available free of charge on a first come first serve basis to qualified organizations.
It has a dedicated mostly volunteer support staff that provides countless hours of coaching, mentoring, facilities maintenance, and fundraising. It was constructed entirely of private funds and has never charged a non profit or charitable group a fee for its use. We want to continue to provide these services but as you know, expenses for such a venture can be daunting.
In 1999 we established an athletic program at the Chesapeake Christian School in Lothian. The main focus was the basketball program. We funded everything from the uniforms to the baskets to the lining of the court. We are working on upgrading their gym to be used by other local groups.
One of our goals is to help the local High School baseball feeder programs. The Southern High School fall baseball program lost their field to the Girls field hockey team. They ended up using our facility for their practice and games. We have also sponsored various clinics and have provided ex major league coaching instruction.
The Northern Calvert Little League, Major League Division used it as one of their practice facilities. In 2002, players from that team made it to the National Championship Game in their division. The field has also served as one of the practice facilities for various youth organizations.
